This three-level home on the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia Beach, Virginia sits above flood levels on a foundation of concrete columns, beam and slab. Clad in red cedar and surrounded by centuries old live oaks, the home features panoramic views of the Bay.

The interior spaces are gathered around a central hearth and masonry wood-burning fireplace. Inset windows act as "ventules,"  allowing each room to be passively ventilated by modulating air flow. This also allows windows to be open during storms that frequent this coastal setting. The home employs a majority of environmental aspects now required for LEED projects even though it was built in 2003, prior to creation of the LEED for Homes residential rating system.
