Located in the historic Ghent neighborhood of Norfolk, Virginia, the church is a local landmark and therefore any proposed work was certain to become historically and culturally sensitive given the needs of the church and the concerns of the neighborhood.

Adding to the challenge was the church's need for new classrooms, offices, a choir room and daily mass chapel - all on an urban site with no additional buildable land. The solution, with construction to begin Spring of 2009, is a design featuring a 12,000-sf addition and renovation creating a new second story above the existing commons area, and inserting a stair and elevator tower alongside the historic Rectory House.

The project is moving toward a LEED certification.
